Black House Series Chapter 5 ~ Finding Your Dream Team and Key Questions to Ask
What I am sharing today might seem obvious but even we fell for rogue builders. I should add here the first time around and not for our Black House.
Think of this post and the Black House Series as your bible if you are about to renovate, want to one day, have builders in your home right now or just want to know what goes on behind the scenes. It might feel like what I am saying is basic or obvious at times, but there is a reason for that. When you are in the midst and thick of it, or about to start a renovation or home project of any scale and making key decisions, you can sometimes become overwhelmed. So having the steps simplified is useful to have to hand.
If you followed me back in the day, you might remember our terraced Victorian House, it was our first ever house, which I loved dearly. We bought it in 2012 when house prices felt more sensible here in the UK, and it cost us £195,000 (or if you are reading from the US, $250,000 ish). It was a fixer-upper, and we had to wait a long time before we could do anything with it. This house was where we welcomed another two little ladies and got married whilst living there. It was also our first renovation project and where the career I have today was born. I am thinking that how I set up Hygge for Home would make for a great story another day?
We had spent all of our savings on getting married and the deposit for the first house, so there was none left in the pot to renovate. However, after I had little lady number 2, I took voluntary redundancy, and it was an enhanced scheme, resulting in a healthy payout that finally allowed us to renovate.
It was all going well until it wasn’t.
