It was great to talk to you in our ‘chat’ last week about your stories and angst over the way planning works here in the UK. Our best friends emigrated a few years ago and live in Austin. They have told me that from their perspective, buying and selling houses can sometimes be easier and quicker in the US and planning (I guess this will depend on what State you live in) is generally more straightforward.

I want to share with you what happened as we started work on our 'diamond in the rough,' or some would say 'ugly duckling.'

I personally found most of the above challenging apart from the Builders, who were brilliant! There will be a post one day all about them. I wonder how many of you share a similar experience to me or have you experienced the opposite?

Ten weeks after planning permission there had been a whirlwind of activity at the site and the bungalow was taking on a new lease of life - the dream was in progress.
