Black House Series Chapter 3 ~ What Happens During the First Two Months of a Home Renovation?
Every build is going to be different with its own unique set of challenges but there are also some common threads. Read on for tips and how to navigate the early weeks.
Our challenge: the only access in and out..if you know you know… see Chapter 2.
It was great to talk to you in our ‘chat’ last week about your stories and angst over the way planning works here in the UK. Our best friends emigrated a few years ago and live in Austin. They have told me that from their perspective, buying and selling houses can sometimes be easier and quicker in the US and planning (I guess this will depend on what State you live in) is generally more straightforward.
I would love for you to join in the ‘Chat’ which is a conversation space in the Substack app that is exclusively for paid subscribers. It is like a group chat where I post short prompts, thoughts and updates and you can jump into the discussion. You can find it directly on the app, or on the website in the top menu bar.
To join our chat, you’ll need to download the Substack app, now available for both iOS and Android. Chats are sent via the app, not email, so turn on push notifications so you don’t miss conversation as it happens.
I want to share with you what happened as we started work on our 'diamond in the rough,' or some would say 'ugly duckling.'
I personally found most of the above challenging apart from the Builders, who were brilliant! There will be a post one day all about them. I wonder how many of you share a similar experience to me or have you experienced the opposite?
Ten weeks after planning permission there had been a whirlwind of activity at the site and the bungalow was taking on a new lease of life - the dream was in progress.
