Black House Series Chapter 8 ~ A practical guide to choosing doors & windows
One of the decisions that took us the longest was finding the glass for our remodel. I got a little obsessed with the detail, materials and millimeters, but it did pay off and is worth the time.
Happy Easter / Bank Holiday Sunday. Apologies for the lateness today, I like this to land in your inboxes first thing, but I had Easter Bunny duties!
We spoke last week about being watertight, the corrugated steel roof was on, the ceilings and (perhaps excessive) roof windows which I again became obsessed with were complete. This ‘obsessiveness’ will become a recurring theme in our renovation story as one of my personality traits is being a perfectionist and this can often work in my favour, but it can also work against me when I become the ‘bottleneck’ and can’t make decisions or commit.
The windows started to arrive along with the exterior cladding (more insight on Charred Wood/Shou Sugi Ban to come).
From the outset the design was all about the glass, the connection to the outdoors and the addition of a first floor. There are two walls of almost floor to ceiling glass in the open plan living space and the master bedroom. Both of these rooms are at the back of the house and have a view of the stream and horses paddock (this doesn’t belong to us and we don’t own any horses but still get to enjoy them).
Choosing our doors and windows was a joyous and deeply frustrating task. We spent hours and hours researching suppliers but eventually I stumbled across the ones…
